All The Luck In The World - Only Avenues
In a book shop above Waverly
the subway underneath made itself known an apocalyptic nod to remind us both
of our size and we left as soon as it arrived but the feeling it did not subside
until you said
if one thing is true
that can't belittle me and you
for an empty train is nothing
but hollow and headed nowhere without my home
or yours to go to
we're only avenues
halfway down the high line
i'm questioning my contributions
only writing to cross out
air exhaled as second hand smoke
at the very least I'm casting a shadow
but if it weren't for the light pollution
I think this this city might really suit you
but that overarching incandescent problem would always spoil the view
