When I woke up this morning
I had a headache
But I didn't touch the pipe
I went for the pen instead
And now I have a poem
Let's hear it

Roses are red
Violets are blue
Carnations are pink
I have never seen a carnation but I trust you
Because you are a botanist
You went to school for botany from 2019 to 2023
And I trust you my botanist friend
I trust you with my life
So tighten the cord around my wrists and sharpen all the knives

Because tonight you're dissecting something other than plants
Tonight you are dissecting me
I have cancelled all my dinner plans
Now you're performing the world's first botanical lobotomy

That's me on the table
Hello
And there you are above me
You say "I've never done this before so be patient please"
I say "well me neither"
And you quickly start dicing and slicing and cutting and pulling
And bam!
There goes my heart
Immediately replaced with monstera of plants
Because monstera of plants can survive in low light you tell me
And there is no light inside my body
Why is that?
You cut open my skull to investigate
And what do you know
All the light bulbs are dead
Burned out
Who's been in charge of replacing the light bulbs in here?
Me
But not anymore
You scrap the light bulbs and plant 118 sunflowers in my brain soil
One for every year that I will be alive
Then you tell me to open my eyes
And I do

And I can see how beautiful the world is
For the first time in my life
Sunflowers planted in my skull
In your hands you hold a bloody knife

So we continue the lobotomy
Or whatever this is
Or whatever it may become
You replace my stomach my feet my hands
You even replace my lungs
Thank you
My spine is poison ivy now
My ribs are opium
You let me keep my teeth
And you tell me you're almost done

And when the lobotomy is over
I am a pile of plants
(woohoo!)
Violets are blue and roses are red
(who knew?)
I am a pile of plants
With almost perfect teeth

There are 118 sunflowers in my head
And I smile
