ZUZ - Bread

Have you ever cleaned up your plate
After having a toast?
Ever had to restart your brain
After having a stroke?
There are crumbs on the plate
From the sandwich you made
Moments before all your senses
Faded away
Didn't know what to do
Afraid of losing you
You broke my heart into pieces
Though you did not want to
Letters vanish, just like the crumbs of the sandwich
Memories that you had disappear
Loss of language
First you lost your words,
Then you lost your father
It is hard to process
The way you change, the way you suffer
But
After all, you stay strong
Giving up would be wrong
I don't stress it enough
I'm in awe, I'm in awe
I'm in awe, I'm in awe
You've been there my whole life
Glad that you're still alive
We all know it could have gone worse
Let's appreciate that it didn't happen
Crumbs on the plate
From the sandwich you made
The plate is like a brain
And the crumbs are the memories
Memories you gain, but once
You've cleaned the plate
All the crumbs go away
Memories vanish, you change
You're so different, yet still the same
Life could be better
People die, suicides
Never forget that
Someday it will be fine
Just make some toast
Think about how it was
Some years ago, before the stroke
