Chris McKenna - Up Against

Oh, what a heavy sleep
Last night was filled with dreams
I was chased through the halls and the streets
Of many worlds I now forget
Wait here, I told myself
You know what you're up against
They will kill you if you fail this test
The blurry scenes I now regret
The connection was severed
And I thought I'd never let go
My dreams all turned to dust
A voice inside whispered, "You're lost"
But lost is where I once played
Still the thought I should have stayed
Plagued me as I was brought to the queen
Hoping she wouldn't be mean
She ignored what I said
I feared that I would soon be dead
If I could not find her heart
But it wasn't me, I just played my part
That's when I learned she was
Confused like me just because
She was an Italian who was from Greece
I was hoping that we could find peace
Enter the man with the car
He raced down the streets
As I struggled to meet him halfway
Somehow out of reach
We tried to connect
But we couldn't protect what we sought
Finally he arrived
Wearing a suit and tie
He had such a serious face
For he knew time we could not replace
We never spoke a word
I felt he must have heard
In the time since I'd gone away
Now there was nothing to say
