Hozier, real name Andrew Hozier-Byrne, was born in Ireland. The Musician and singer songwriter first shot to fame in 2013 when at the age of 23 he released his debut EP, Take me to the Church.
The record features the hit song of the same name, as well as the tracks Like Real People Do, Angel of Small Death and the Codeine Scene, alongside a live version of Cherry Wine.
The single from the EP - also titled Take me to Church - was widely well received, reaching the top spot in the Irish iTunes singles chart and number two in the official charts. Additionally, it reached the top ten in multiple countries across the world, including the UK and the US.
Many attribute the success of the single to the disturbing video that went with it, highlighting homosexual repression in Russia. The song and video quickly caught the attention of British comedian Stephen Fry, who shared it with his eight million followers on Twitter. Take me to the
Church now has over 155 million views on YouTube. Hozier's follow up EP, From Eden, featuring the title track, Work Song, Arsonist's Lullabye and To Be Alone. This was followed by his debut selftitled album in September 2014 featuring hit single Take me to Church.
In 2015 Hozier's Take me to Church was nominated for the Grammy Awards Song of the Year and at the ceremony he performed the song alongside Annie Lennox. At the MTV Europe Music
Awards in 2014 the song was nominated for Best Song with a Social Message, and his album won Album of the Year at the 2015 European Border Breakers Awards. At the 2015 BRIT Awards, Hozier lost out to Pharrell Williams for the title of International Male Solo Artist.
