Country music sensation Hunter Hayes began working in the music industry from a very early age. Born in Louisiana in 1991, an only child, Hunter was given an accordion by his grandmother at the age of two. By four he was a television regular, appearing on the Rosie O Donnell show and performing ‘Jambalaya (On The Bayou)’ on Nickleodeon’s ‘Figure It Out’. The child star was invited to perform for President Clinton at the White House when he was just seven-years-old.
Hunter describes himself as quiet and shy at school, stating that music was his one best friend. In 2008 Hunter’s family moved to Nashville to further his music career with Hunter graduating high school via a correspondence course. By September 2010 the teenager was signed to Atlantic Records and starting work on his debut album.
In October 2011 his self-titled album was released, the young musician co-wrote each song and plays thirty instruments used in the recordings. One of the album’s singles, ‘Wanted’ became Hunter’s first number one chart hit in 2012. The track went Gold in July of the same year and won the Teen Awards for 'Best Single of the Year' and 'New Artist' and 'Music Video of the Year' and 'New Artist' at the American Country Awards. Hunter has also won an award for 'Male Country Artist' at the Teen Choice Awards.
Hunter supported Taylor Swift on her summer 2011 tour and appeared as a supporting act for Carrie Underwood’s 2012 tour.
In May 2014, Hayes released his second studio album, Storyline. Unlike his first album, Storyline featured guest musicians, including his touring band and Paul Franklin.
Speaking of his on-stage performances, Hunter has said: “When I get on stage, that’s my home. That’s my element and I’m not shy anymore, that’s where I’m comfortable. Getting to play live every night, that’s what I’ve always dreamed about.”
