Mikky Ekko, original name John Stephen Sudduth, is a singer-songwriter who hails from Louisiana, US. Ekko began his career when he signed to RCA Records and wasted no time in grafting and developing the Mikky Ekko persona, which has received a growing amount of attention from music bosses and music critics alike.
The talented performer reached new heights in 2010 as the two EPs he released (REDS and BLUES) caught the attention of widely acclaimed hip-hop producer Clams Casino. Having worked with the likes of A$AP Rocky and The Weeknd, Casino wasted no time in creating ‘We Must Be Killers’ with Ekko. It was this release to Ekko’s YouTube channel which proved to be a career-altering single, as it received 100,000 views and caught the eye of some big names within the music industry.
One of those big names was Rihanna, who decided to feature Ekko on her 2013 ‘Unapologetic’ album on the track ‘Stay’. As Ekko’s first charting material, it enabled him to gain his first entry onto music charts around the world; reaching number three on the US Billboard Hot 100. The success of the track was highlighted at the 2013 Grammy Awards, when Ekko and Rihanna performed together live on stage.
On the back of worldwide exposure, through Stay, Ekko teamed up with the same producer as for his 2010 EPs: Clams Casino. This collaboration in the music studio resulted in the creation of Pull Me Down; a track which saw Ekko release his first official music video in February 2013 through his VEVO account. Then in January 2015 Ekko released his debut studio album Time.
