Teddy McGowan - The Beautiful Things That End

There was a day
That I wished would never end
I made myself a friend
I fell into a place that I had never seen
But it was waiting for me

And there we were
With our backs to the sunset
Looking out from the hill
Embracing the chill
Of the breath of the wind
And the silent air
That played with her hair
When we were out there
The smoothest stream
That I've ever seen
Cutting through some tall grass
That had lost its green
And mountains and airplanes
Awaiting the stars
That quietly danced
Once the world got dark
And I felt my heart start

Well we headed back
It felt like I was home
On a comfortable road
And I couldn't see beyond the headlights but I knew
That there was beauty beyond

And there we were
With our backs to her house
In a pocket of light
Surrounded by night
That had fallen around
All the chatter and sound
Of the people out back
Who faded to black
A conversation we had for a while
But I can't remember, I was lost in her smile
A laugh, a drink, a little spark
I watched my world falling apart
And I felt my heart start

And then there I was
Alone in my room
Thinking of someone
Who I wish I knew
Better than moonlit walks in the park
But she'd seen the storm I hadn't been through
And I heard the song that love sang as it flew
To my head, from my heart

And then there we were
With our backs to the dark
On a walk down a road
In the city of stars
Where each flickering light
Found its place in the night
And all the things that were gone
Were turned into a song
A song of love, and fading friends
A song about the beautiful things that end
A song that tries to hold it all
A special hill
A welcome chill
A setting sun
A heart begun
A dancing star that fell too far
A pocket of light that found its place in the night
And faded back into dark
