tony burrows music band - WHIMSICAL SMILE

When I was a young lad I ran with the crowd
Drinkin' and spending our pay
With carefree friends we laughed we were loud
Knowing nothing could stand in our way
Then everything changed one bright sunny day
I'd been sitting around for a while
When I turned to see
She was looking at me
The girl with the whimsical smile

Her hair was crimson her skin was fair
I was taken at my first glance
I fell in love that day with that blue eyed girl
Though I knew I only had half a chance
Well I lost my assurance I had nothing to say
Her flush had just beaten my prial
But she didn't decline
She put her lips against mine
I kissed the girl with the whimsical smile

Next morn I left I sailed off to France
To fight for country and king
In the trenches we fought against the gas and the shells
A worse sight had never been seen
In my short sheltered life I had never seen death
Nor suffering it all was so vile
As I lay in the mud
In the rain and the blood
I saw the girl with the whimsical smile
As I lay in the mud
The rain and the blood
I saw the girl with the whimsical smile
