Steve Benjamins - A Hammer Fell from the Sky

By the light of the moon, it would hover the sea
Shiver down my back when I'd try to sleep
A whispering voice, it would call out to me
I thought I heard the shuffle of angels feet

I followed the sounds and I fell to my knees
Then I saw the spirit dancing in the trees
A faint rhythm to an never-ending song
Came to my lips and the words to my tongue, I said

"Maybe you'll be walking among falling trees
Watching the plague of a crying sea
If the heavens should collapse into eternity
Let your voice ring out in apostasy"

"If you talk to the Lord they gonna call you devout
If he talks back to you they gonna wanna throw you out
If you talk to the Lord they gonna call you devout
If he talks back to you, they'll call you a fool"

Saw the Serengeti through the tv screen
It lit me up yellow like a fever dream
I muted the sound, and a voice spoke to me
I thought I heard the shuffle of angels feet

The walls in the room started turning on me
I saw the moon pulling at the crashing sea
Turned out the lights and the rain had to pour
I saw the Lord sliding out the sliding door, he said

"Maybe you'll be walking among falling trees
Watching the plague of a crying sea
If the heavens should collapse into eternity
Let your voice ring out in apostasy"

"If you talk to the Lord they gonna call you devout
If he talks back to you they gonna wanna throw you out
If you talk to the Lord they gonna call you devout
If he talks back to you, they'll call you a fool"

A hammer fell
From the sky
I saw blood and some
Of it was mine
My beating heart
Recursive mind
Tasted blood
Some of it was mine
I saw dust that moved
Bloodless brains
Men on machines
Laughing.
