Nothing More Cruel - Art Has Died

Well I've written stories like the poets long behind
But it's time who seems to be the one who's bought them
And maybe they're all bastards they're seen by virgin eyes
Cause they mock the Christmas dogs that we've adopted

We've moved along
We've moved along
Pitied are the men, who seek to bring us home again
Though they're so far gone

The colliseums crumbled they've tore up the Taj Majal
And in their place they have erected concrete idols
Well the music sure is mesmerizing, gleaming gold and gall
But the meaning and the art was never vital

We've moved along
We've moved along
Priceless as they seemed, they've sold their souls to pretty things
And forsoke art

Well that's a pretty picture which we've painted of our pasts
But the paintings only perfect to the painter
Watch as Midas touches that which we were taught to grasp
Oh son, the profit which you've sought was sure to taint her

We've moved along
We've moved along
Dead and rotting lie those pastors preaching from the time
We'd burn that cross

Funny how you bow to those who come into this world
And with a face and pretty eyes enlist their soldiers
While the heros of this story, those who work their hands to bones
Only warn a passing glance as you turn shoulder

We've moved along
We've moved along
We burned away our shame, we watch our fathers roll in graves
Yet we don't stop

Well the money sure is savored while we feed our children paper
I just wish to find the favor you've forgot
