Nothing More Cruel - re: Christmas Night

She stole Christmas night
The death of firesides
Wrapping paper thrown into the street
The melting Winter snow
The bleeding from your nose
Cause daddy's kind of love is bittersweet

And I'm the little boy,
Who's dreams have been destroyed
Finding out that Santa isn't real
So these bedroom curtains drawn
And starried-eyes long gone
Christmas won't be quite the same next year

And she's the cripple's curse
The Jezebel of words
The Devil that won't ever let you be
And she's a burning city,
Death yet bright and pretty
The crackle drowning out the orphan's scream

And I'm the prey she's caught
The rabbit in her jaws
Hanging from the teeth inside my throat
Her color pulled me in
Drunk and blind off crooked grins
Until I couldn't see the blood apon her coat

And The Garden kneels to fate
Cause Eve just kissed the snake
Lying through the apple in her teeth
Jehovah then implores:
"Why is Adam on the floor?
And why is there no fruit left on the tree?"

And The Serpent then replies:
"Sir, you know I'm prone to lie
But this time there's no need to bend this truth
You see, Adam pleaded 'no', as her fingers found his throat
Then asked me if I'm free to grab some fruit"

And though she's broken hearts
And as bloody as we are
I won't seek to blame her for a moment
Cause as I slave to false belief
The notion never leaves
That maybe what she breaks is already broken

I let her play that part
I'm no stranger to the dark
I've never been a foreigner to dust

And sure I can't let go
But in my heart, I'd always known
I just hoped that there was more to it for once
