Pine Branch - John's Vacation

I have a friend who's name is John
He once was here but now he's gone
And he seems to be as happy as can be
I talk to him through his cellphone
And video games when we're both stoned
But I seem to be as lonely as can be
I miss him here is that selfish
To want him to come back and wish
That maybe one day he'll come visit me
But then again I could be wrong
It could be my fault all along
For not moving out into a new city
And I miss my friend John
And all the things we've done
And I hope to see him on
A day coming up
He took a trip to western shores
The south will be his home no more
He's got himself a spot in south Cali
He says out loud that he won't return
Is he teaching something I should learn
Or should I stay with the big magnolia tree
Remember all those river days
Where we'd go swimming in a haze
And laugh till the water got too damn dark to see
And I'm not trying to guilt trip
Just reminiscence on the things we did
And I hope you hold on to those memories
And I miss my friend John
And all the things we've done
I hope to see him on
A day coming up
And I know you're keeping track
But I hope you're having fun
And maybe you'll come back
From your vacation
