The Gallowgate Murders - Operation Neptune

Thoughts of home I cannot find on this war torn sea
but the lies in mine and my brother's mind, "let's go join the army"
A gun in the hand and a helmet on, make the country free
I felt so brave 'till we sailed away, a ship that's set for Normandy
Way hey fa-diddle-day, whack for ma diddle going far away
Sailing away on Neptune bay, across the shores on D-day
A rattle and a panic and a twiddle of thumbs, I tell myself I'm brave
And I whisper the lie and I try and try, to think about the lives I'll save
A smack on the back and a shoulders grip, "Listen to what I say"
"Follow me now" said the captain loud "and save yourself the waters' grave"
Way hey fa-diddle-day, whack for ma diddle going far away
Sailing away on Neptune bay, across the shores on D-day
A push and a rush and a face of blood, happened all so fast
The bullets flied and the captain died and we ran to the beach in a panicked mass
A sound from a tower and the bodies fell, my heart taken aghast
My brother lay there with his guts to bare, when he saved me from a mortal blast
Way hey fa-diddle-day, whack for ma diddle going far away
Sailing away on Neptune bay, across the shores on D-day
Remember the day when they sailed away, listen to my tune
For on France's shore 1944, on the 6th of June
Men fought the war on the Western front, they gave their lives for you
On that fateful day that they code named "Operation Neptune"
Way hey fa-diddle-day, whack for ma diddle going far away
Sailing away on Neptune bay, across the shores on D-day
Way hey fa-diddle-day, whack for ma diddle going far away
Sailing away on Neptune bay, across the shores on D-day
