Ben Bannister - What Is the Gospel

My life is an open book
A gospel that someone will read
Day by day, I write each page
A paragraph is formed with every deed
When others read the words I write
Can they see Jesus in the way that I live
Do they turn and walk away
Or do they give their hearts to him

Do I persuade them to believe
What does my gospel says
Do I bring them to the foot of His cross
Or do my deeds turn them away
Does my life proclaim the love
Of the one who set me free
What do they see when they read my life
What is the gospel according to me

What others think I believe the most
The thing that is most powerfully heard
Is not what I say but what I do
For actions speak loud than words
When others read the book of my heart
What is it that they see
Do they see my selfish pride
Or do they see Jesus in me

When my life is called into question
Will they see that I firmly stand
On the rock of my salvation
Or do they see the sin of this man
I pray today that my life would show them
The Lord Jesus who set me free
And I pray that the life He lived
Would be the gospel according to me

What do they see when they read my life
What do they find in the words
I pray that they would find the story of Jesus
The greatest story ever read or heard

The love of Jesus is the gospel
But what is the gospel according to me
