In the hard-nosed pop business, Money, Money, Money is the Name of the Game, with artists taking turns to shout Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! In the end, though, the Winner Takes It All, no matter how good their songs or lyrics are along the way.
Except in the case of Swedish mega-stars ABBA, who dominated the musical world in the 70s and 80s and – so the latest news goes – are set to record their first new music in over 35 years. Mamma Mia!
A post on Instagram said that after recent plans for a “virtual reality” tour got underway, the Scandinavian foursome realised that heading back into the musical arena could be exciting.
"We all four felt that, after some 35 years, it could be fun to join forces again and go into the studio," the band said on Instagram. "And it was like time stood still."
Though no formal release date has been given for the songs, one of them – titled “I Still Have Faith In You” - will be performed by the band’s digital avatars as part of a special TV broadcast produced by the BBC and NBC.
Abba's spokesperson Gorel Hanser told the BBC the atmosphere in the studio was "magic".
"It was like no time had passed at all," she said. "It was like the olden days. They were happy, it was easy and warm-hearted, and it was actually quite moving. I wasn't the only one with tears in my eyes."
She confirmed, however, the ABBA would not be performing live – and that the new plans just extended to the studio for now.
So, one of music’s real Super Troupers heads back into the game. Stay tuned to lyricfinder for news about the new tracks’ lyrics as soon as they become available. Thank them for the music, though.
