Camila Cabello has had an extraordinary 2018, having been the first debut album to top the iTunes album charts in over 100 countries and the first female (since Adele) to claim the top spots on both the American albums and singles charts at the same time. And now, we have another astounding track from this talented artist, Consequences.
A emotional story of lost love, Cabello first started working on the song back in January of 2017 and redid the vocals seven times over the next 11 months. It seems the Havana star wanted to capture the right tone for the song.
What was so important about the song that it had to be perfect? Cabello’s feelings were that the song was about a way of letting people in and she needed to capture it completely. The artist regards the track as the aftermath of a love that was intoxicating and difficult to forget. Sources have described the song as the impact of a partner in her life. In fact, in the lyrics, she confesses:
“Lost a little weight because I wasn’t eating.”
Her vocals are absolutely impressive in this piano ballad and create a deeply personal, tear-jerking experience. The song video that was released yesterday is an alluring portrayal of the highs and lows of love.
The lyrics of the powerful chorus are: “'Cause loving you had consequences.”
The song was co-penned by Amy Wadge and Nashville tunesmiths Nicolle Galyon and Emily Weisband. It was introduced to Cabello through Ed Sheeran. The artist recently performed the track at the 2018 American Music Awards.
When asked about the song on the Zach Sang show, Cabello said: "I love how in that song there’s no regret in it [loving deeply]. It’s kinda acknowledging, yeah I’m dealing with the aftermath but it’s not like I should’ve never… This was so intense and crazy and now it sucks but it was still worth it.”
