Gavin Castleton - Astral Ballet

When they reached the old wall, it was too dark to see so they rested there
Listening to crickets and trees
He fed the pig onions, and carrots, and pants
And sang about loving and learning to dance
I woke up alone
Froze to the bone
I walked to the edge of the moon
There in the sky
A sight for sore eyes
A scene from the walls of my room
Like marbles
Sprayed out before me
Asteroids, comets, and Nebula
A silent ballet so heavenly
Something so incredible
Turning in wonder
First over, then under
A dance that you wouldn't believe
Suddenly all of those planets
That I took for granted
Were tipping their turbans to me
I took a big leap of blind faith
Stepped off the moon
And jumped into outer space
I called to the North Star
“Come take my hand, sweet Polaris”
I wanted to learn about love
From the heavens above
We spun out like binary stars
She showed me the rivers of Mars
As soon as my orbit was set
She dropped my hand
She let me go
I couldn’t slow… down
Spinning so out of control… now
Further and further away… from
All of the things I could name… why?
Why did I feel so afraid?
Why do we fear what we cannot explain?
