Poetic Lace - Barabbas

Intro:
Barabbas: I am that guy who is extremely blessed and does not deserve it. And when you realize you don’t deserve it, you find the need to vocalize it. Here’s my story.

1st Chorus:
That could’ve been me,
That could’ve been me,
Beaten, bloody, nailed to a tree,
My God that should’ve been me
That should’ve been me,
Why wasn’t it me?
An innocent man was charged my fee, He took the lashes that was meant for me

Verse:
Hi, my name’s Barabbas,
I’m what many would call a sin addict,
I murdered a few and led a rebellion,
Notorious in prison amongst these felons,
But hey, today’s the big day,
A large crowd of people will decide if I stay,
Or go home, and condone, I live on,
My works in my zone were not wrong,
But anyways I’m being led to the front,
I see another guy in chains but let me be blunt,
His face is bruised, His eyes are blacked,
His clothes are torn, His skin is cracked,
But listen close Pilate’s about to speak,
It’s going to be information on the harvest we reap.

Pilate: So, who’s it going to be: Barabbas or The King of the Jews?

Crowd: Barabbas! Barabbas! Barabbas!
Pilate: Well what about the King of the Jews?
Crowd: Crucify Him! Crucify Him! Crucify Him! Scourge Him with a whip of many thorns!

Barabbas: Yes, the crowd has spoken,
Time to take theses chains off, give the people their token, But wait, they’re not celebrating my release,
I thought they would embrace me at the very least.
Narrator: It’s time later and Jesus, the King of the Jews, is being scourged. The beating is so bad, you can hear His blood cry through Jerusalem.

Barabbas: Okay, let’s fast forward a little more,
We’re here at Calvary but it feels like Gomorrah,
Wicked Romans are laughing, while Pharisees are mocking, Righteous women are crying, but that don’t mean it’s stopping, A trail of blood leads me to His cross,
The sight is so bad that my strength gets lost,
He’s spread wide with nails in hands and feet,
I can’t even recognize Him as a human being,
Blood drippin’, people trippin’,
They’re rolling dice for his clothes, straight flippin’,
Above His naked body is an interesting inscription,
The King of the Jews says the description,
It’s time to go,
Jesus is dead cause He ain’t breathing no more,
I feel strange as I walk behind the cross,
I look up now my words are lost,
The inscription on the back says Barabbas,
So you tellin’ me that’s suppose to be Barabbas,
Beaten, bloody, nailed to this tree,
My God, He died for me,
I was selfish, I was wrong,
Deep in hell is where I really belong,
But the blood of Jesus Christ saved my life,
Even though I was Judas with the knife.

2nd Chorus:
That could’ve been me,
That should’ve been me,
An innocent man was charged my fee,
He took the lashes that was meant for me.

Outro:
Father, please forgive me of all my sins and my iniquity. Create in me a clean heart O’ God. Renew a steadfast spirit within me. Cleanse me with Your hyssop, so that I may be holy and pleasing unto You. Amen
