Darryl Atherton - Christmas Calling

Christmas bells ring out across the crisp morning
Awakening the children as the day is dawning
Presents wrapped and stacked beneath the tree
What delights are waiting there for you and me

The snow lies deep on the frozen ground
Covering everything for miles all around
This is how Christmas should always be
That stark white landscape etched in memory

There's no time for any breakfast toast
Us children want to see who has the most
First it's time for giving and receiving
For this Yuletide time of sharing

Young faces glowing in the firelight
Wonderful to see their pure delight
Quickly ticking presents off their list
Happiness shows the adults got the gist

That Christmas walk before the feasting
Get stuck in there's no time for wasting
The massive meal that took days of preparation
A family tradition for more than a generation

The daylight fades day draws to a close
What other delights does the holiday pose
That magic spark of family brought together
Brings a warm glow of hope to last forever
