Dreamed the Northerner - How Did It Get So Blue?

I wrote a little poem in the hopes it wouldn't matter
But it turned out you were flattered from the start
Coded in that message was something you weren't meant to read
I can't believe it ever got this far

Sometimes I try too hard
Yeah, I try too hard

We were running out of pictures
So we stared out at the fishes
And I guess I should've kissed you then and there
But my morbid superstitions are just tied up in my hip bones
So I said, damn, how'd this water get so blue?

How did it get so blue?

I dropped a mango off a ladder
Just to see if it would splatter
But I guess, I knew it would right and well
We were cuddled in the corner
But you said you felt some soreness
So you got up and you fixed yourself a drink

Sometimes it's just too hard
Yeah, it's just too hard

Folded in your attic
Is a chair that you once sat on
But it's quickly filling up with all your dust
I would ask you "What's the matter?"
But your obviously in tatters
And I'm not sure what advice I'd really bring

How did it get so blue?

They say it's a lot to learn
In such a short time

I came three hours down to meet you
And you said, "It's nice to see you"
And you sat right down to roll us up a J
We were higher up than Saturn at the local planetarium
But Neptune made you feel too far away

Sometimes it's just too hard
Yeah, it's just too hard

You keep talking bout' the future
Like it's ever getting sooner
And you call your mom in front of me to say
I wish that I could see you and it really sucks to be here
I look forward to it ending any day now

How did it get so blue?

They say it's a lot to learn
In such a short time
