Emma Amber - july first

Out of date flyers on a rainy day
I look at my hands and and I look around and say
Where did everything go
And I have to sit and think because I don't know

You and me were like perfect weather
It feels so good but its never forever

It's Canada day
But I don't think I'm going to celebrate
We call it a holiday
But it celebrates colonialism anyway
Barbecues and swimming outside
They can happen some other day
And I never wanted to say goodbye
July first is only one day of the year
And just like your love
All the celebration disappeared

Parades become less fun as you get old
When did I stop being enthused by the fancy floats?
All our vacations, all our memories
Now you chase new destinations without me

We saw the good, we saw the bad
You were the best sadness I ever had

It's Canada day
But I don't think I'm going to celebrate
We call it a holiday
But it celebrates colonialism anyway
Barbecues and swimming outside
They can happen some other day
And I never wanted to say goodbye
July first is only one day of the year
And just like your love
All the celebration disappeared

I thought we had forever, guess I was wrong
This isn't what I meant when I wanted you to inspire my songs
I thought that I got rid of the deadlines
I thought that you would always be mine

Now it's Canada day
Sometimes I miss when we would celebrate
But there's 364 other days in a year
And I can't spend them all in fear

And sometimes I want to thank you for saying goodbye
July first is only one day of the year
Just like our love
All the celebration disappeared
