Tim Higgins - Ruins

I made you walk
To the ruins at night
I didn't know
What was on your mind
You kissed me there
Among those great lost walls
Then we walked back to my house
Ruins of ourselves
There was an old country
In this corrupt, crony town
It thrived on humility
But you could not pass that down
The fires that once blazed
Burned out the night
And light can get so sore
You don't get it back anymore
I said a prayer for the whole world tonight
I could not see blossoms for blight
I caught a ride on the Oliver lock and dam
Clocked out about 80
Emptied that paper bag
The Gulf tore mama's house
Right out of the ground
There's nothing lost
That cannot be found, they say
"Progress" pushed my house
Right in on itself
Now there's nothing to go back to
No ruins even left
