The Story Is Everything - The Adventures of Monsieur LeChat

Monsieur LeChat had impeccable taste
As he leapt from the trash can with great feline grace
And stopped to lick his paw
Picked a fine fishbone from between his teeth with his claw
Madame Minou was quite fluffy and fat
From a wide window sill she gazed down on LeChat
And blinked twice in the sun
As a man yelled “SCAT” and sent Monsieur LeChat on the run
Monsieur LeChat made his rounds in the Quarter
From one eatery to another in order
Upon the best he would dine
For the garbage can larder of this town was sublime
Madame Minou dined upon Fancy Feast
A can opener sound made her run like a beast
With her kittens gone and grown
Madame Minou ate her bland pabulum alone
Monsieur LeChat had a great eye for beauty
Saw Minou and thought it his duty
To show her what their fine city could offer
So one afternoon he liberated
Minou from her life so sedated
And brought her on a tour of trash can coffers
From Antoine's, Oysters Rockefeller
Galatoire’s, Crabmeat Sardou
From Arnaud’s came Frog Legs Provencal
From Broussard’s, a bouillabaisse stew
From Tujaque’s, Chicken Bonne Femme, and then
From K’Paul’s, the blackened redfish
Delmonico’s bread pudding topped off the meal
And Minou found it all quite delish!
Monsieur LeChat had impassioned desire
To take their culinary conquests much higher
With a mate now to share his soul
Commander’s Palace uptown now was his goal
The quickest way uptown would be streetcar hopping
He spied on Canal a gal laden from shopping
He and Minou later would brag
How they rode uptown stowed away in a D.H. Holmes bag
Monsieur LeChat was quite clever and cunning
Madame Minou’s whiskers were stunning
And they revelled together in what their fine city could offer
Gastronomy, oh so supreme!
On the best of New Orleans cuisine
They dined like kings while having the pockets of paupers
From Antoine's, Oysters Rockefeller
Galatoire’s, Crabmeat Sardou
From Arnaud’s came Frog Legs Provencal
From Broussard’s, a bouillabaisse stew
From Brennan’s, a Bananas Foster
That flaming fantastical goop
And last but not least, the pièce de résistance
Commander’s Palace’s fine TURTLE SOUP!
