A.S.A.P. Lyrics and Profile

A$AP Rocky, real name Rakim Mayers, is an American rapper who first shot to mainstream fame after releasing his mixtape Live. Love. ASAP in 2011. The collection of songs received a great deal of attention from record labels, which eventually resulted in him signing a deal with RCA Records, Sony Music Entertainment and Polo Grounds Music.

Following the great deal of exposure his music had received, the rapper joined Kendrick Lamar as the opening act for Drake’s 2012 Club Paradise Tour. This propelled his career in the music business, which led to him donating rap verses for Rihanna’s Cockiness (Love It) performance at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards.

Late 2012 saw the rapper promote his first studio album, which was set for release in early 2013. He embarked on a 40-date national tour of the US lasting three months, with Schoolboy Q, Danny Brown and the A$AP Mob providing support material for the string of shows.

The time came for A$AP Rocky to release his first studio album, Long. Live. ASAP. The album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 Chart, with first week sales of 139,000 copies in the US and in 2015 it was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. This was promoted with two singles, the first being Goldie and the second, F**kin Problems. The latter saw the rapper team up with Kendrick Lamar once again, as well as Drake and 2 Chainz. The single peaked at number eight on the US Billboard 100 Chart.

In May 2015, A$AP Rocky released his second studio album, At. Long. Last. ASAP after it was leaked online a week before the official release date. The album received positive reviews from critics and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, selling 116,000 copies in the United States.

The controversy circling the rapper’s career has not inhibited the hype surrounding his music, with him being nominated for a BBC Sound Of 2012 Award, one BET Best New Artist Award, an MTV Video Music Award and two MTV Europe Music Awards.
