Harris Calvin Lyrics and Profile

Scottish DJ and songwriter Calvin Harris was born Adam Richie Wiles in Dumfries in 1984. Now known for his dancefloor favorite electro-anthems, Harris started out recording bedroom demos at the age of 15. Before taking on the stage-name Calvin Harris, he enjoyed some success in 2002 under the name, ‘Stouffer’. ‘Da Bongos’ and ‘Brighter Days’ were released by Prima Facie as a 12” club single.

Harris was discovered on MySpace in 2006 and signed contracts with EMI and Sony BMG. His debut album ‘I Created Disco,’ saw him shoot straight into the UK top ten. ‘Acceptable in the 80s,’ an electro-clash track, stayed on the chart for 15 weeks after reaching number ten. Follow-up album, ‘Ready for the Weekend’ saw lead single ‘I’m not Alone’ debut at number one in April 2009.

Harris is also well-known for his successful collaborations; in 2007 he teamed up with Kylie Minogue to co-write and produce ‘Heart Beat Rock’ and ‘In My Arms’ for the album ‘X’. And 2008 saw Harris nominated for several awards for his work with Dizzee Rascal on his single ‘Dance Wiv Me’.

2012 album ’18 Months’ features more fruitful partnerships. ‘We Found Love', written by Harris and performed by Rihanna, stayed in the US Hot 100 for ten weeks. Harris’ collaboration with Florence Welch also earned him chart success with ‘Sweet Nothing’ hitting number one on the UK Singles Chart.

Harris won awards for Best Pop Video and Video of the Year at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards for ‘We Found Love.’ In 2013, ‘Sweet Nothing’ won best Dancefloor Anthem at the NME Awards.

Harris’ fourth album, Motion, was released on 4 November 2014. The album featured collaborations from Ellie Goulding, Gwen Stefani, John Newman and Haim.

Speaking of his style, Harris said: “I’m going for pretty epic-sounding dance records.

“I guess the whole sound has just moved on in terms of production as I’ve got a new studio and some new gear to make the sounds I wasn’t able to make before.”
