Florida-born Jason Joel Desrouleaux – otherwise known as Jason Derulo – can lay claim to having sold more than 50 million singles since he began his career in music in 2009. Described as a singer, songwriter and dancer, he started out penning tunes for Pitbull, Sean Kingston and Lil Wayne and has since achieved more than two billion views on YouTube, 11 platinum singles including In My Head and It Girl, and one billion plays on Spotify.
Arguably his most successful album, the 2014 Talk Dirty, led to five platinum singles, which sold a collective 16 million units across the globe. The title track itself sold more than six million singles and took the number one spot worldwide, while also being played repeatedly on US radio. In 2012, Derulo announced on American Idol that he would let fans contribute towards the lyrics of his new song, Undefeated, as part of a linkup between American Idol and Coca Cola. Fans were able to send in their own lyrics and then vote on the ones they liked the most.
In 2015, to build on his success, Derulo released his fourth studio album, Everything is 4, which mixes pop and dances with tracks such as Want To Want Me. This tune propelled Derulo further into the spotlight, making it onto the playlists of 156 pop stations. No other artist, including the likes of Madonna and Taylor Swift, has managed to achieve that feat.
