2 Chainz, stage name of Tauheed Epps, is an American hip-hop artist that first found musical success as one-half of Southern American hip-hop duo, Playaz Circle. Famed for debut single Duffle Bag Boy, which features Lil’ Wayne, the band enjoyed their first taste of chart-topping success by storming the US Billboard 100 and peaking at number 15.
Branching out into his own solo project, 2 Chainz announced the release of his debut studio album Based On A T.R.U. Story in 2012. With guest appearances from a star-studded array of acts, such as Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj, Drake, and The Weeknd, the album was nominated for the Best Rap Album at the 55th Grammy Awards. Three singles have been released from the album, with the third reaching music critics and fans in late 2012. I’m Different enjoyed success in the music charts, as well as television, with it being used for an Adidas commercial.
The same year saw the hip-hop star feature on A$AP Rocky’s single F**kin Problems, alongside fellow rappers Drake and Kendrick Lamar. The single was received well by critics, with Complex Magazine naming it as number 21 on their 50 Best Songs of 2012 list.
In addition to his Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album, 2 Chainz has won a variety of notable music awards such as four BET Hip Hop Awards and one Soul Train Award. Amongst the trophies he has received, the rapper also boasts a large collection of awards nominations - seven BET Hip Hop Awards, three Grammy Awards and one Soul Train Award.
Late 2013 saw the release of 2 Chainz's second studio album, B.O.A.T.S. II: Me Time featuring a host of new big names, including Pharrell Williams, Fergie, T-Pain and Mase. He announced that he would start on his third album straight after the release, but in May 2014 saw 2 Chainz offer the EP FreeBase as a free digital download.
