Blind Charades - Drive

She was reading Murakami right before she picked me up
She was in her white Elantra listening to songs by pup
I saw her staring at me in the background of my dreams
I tried to ask her for some help, what was it supposed to mean?
And in a flash from her stare i felt my soul sink to a trance
I wipe that smirk right off my face as my heart begins to dance
She likes her coffee with vanilla and a little splash of oat
Mirror image of her heart she likes to take it nice and cold
She made a subtle proposition, let's run away from our past
But we knew it couldn't last because her heart was made of glass
Did you hear the heavy metal blasting through her broken heart?
You should've seen it coming right before she tore you apart

Oh

We shared our dreams and shared our fears it was something to behold
And in that moment through my past reflections i saw us both grow old
she changed the conversation to a 104 degrees
But before she could do that she had to let herself be free
It was mid September when it happened, I threw it all away
I spent the rest of the year with my head in disarray
I took myself out for a drive as i merged on to the 405
I was headed straight for the beach just to clear my mind
It was a last minute decision acting purely on impulse
I started walking among the crowd, i saw a girl clutching her purse
She was lacking self-security and in her I saw myself
It was then that I decided I'd put myself up on a shelf
