Marco Peper - In The Backseat

I remember those days, when I was just a little boy
Nothing on my mind, just doing what I enjoyed
My father had a good job, he was hardly at home
I had to find a way to spend most of my time on my own
Every summer vacation, we had to travel real far
Driving all night, in the backseat of my daddy's car
My hand on his shoulder, his hand right there on mine
Mile after mile, getting lost in that moment in time
Speeding down the highway, further and further away
Way up in the mountains, to a river where we used to play
And I laid down my head in the light of some far away star
Driving all night, in the backseat of my daddy's car
One day he told me, mom and me aren't getting along
He got married again and my childhood seemed to be gone
He kept loving me deeply, but it wasn't the same
I went on with my life, trying not to lay blame
Put my hand on his shoulder, trying to heal my scar
Driving all night, in the backseat of my daddy's car
Then he got sick, and soon after he passed away
He gave me God's blessing with the last words he would say
Now I wish I could see him to show 'm all that I am
Tell him my stories, with my hand on his shoulder again
So I wrote him a song, an ode on my guitar
Driving all night, in the backseat of my daddy's car
And I lay down my head in the light of some far away star
Driving all night, in the backseat of my daddy's car
And I lay down my head in the light of some far away star
Driving all night, in the backseat of my daddy's car
