Dennis Lee Nowicki - Andrew Jackson (A Life)

1767, on the 15th of March
Andrew Jackson came into this life
His father came from Ireland just two years before
And settled in the Carolinas - with his wife

At 14, Andy joined the Revolutionary War
As a courier, ran messages with ease
But, was captured by the British, and he almost died
And was orphaned through accident and disease

The war ended and Andy studied for three years
Became a lawyer in what will be Tennessee
In '88, he moved to Nashville, met Rachel, who was wed
She divorced, then they decided - to marry

They had no children of their own, but took care of a few
In '96, elected Rep from Tennessee
He was a Senator, a judge, head of the militia, then,
The War of 1812 was his destiny

Andrew Jackson, number 7 in the presidential line
Tried to mold the nation to his design

He became a hero at the Battle of New Orleans
Which made him popular to become prez
He lost in '24, but won in '28
And worked to help the common man, so history says

Though he served till '37, he remained an active voice
Till on June 8th, '45, poor Andrew died
He's there as a reminder on the $20 dollar bill
'Old Hickory', strong and unyielding, on our side
