Stories Bones Tell - The Harbinger

A strange man came one day
Foreign clothes and weary look
He asked for roof and rest
Then shared his tale

He said he was a bearer of ill news
From a realm beyond that was no more
He claimed that an unfathomable force
Had seized his home and all was gone
He warned that our world would be destroyed
If we did not make haste

A swarming darkness from the void
Bringers of the end of time
Undying rage, a hunger eternal

We might have had a fighting chance
Tried to break away or hide
But we did not take heed

Not one of us believed
A single word of what he said
They are ravings of a madman
Nothing more

We cast the prophet out
And we got back to our lives
Clinging to the comfort
Of what we pretend to know

Then terrifying visions started haunting our dreams
Unnamable creations slowly torturing our sleep
The anarchy and panic that ensued were but a joke
Compared to the day they came

The sky ripped up and down they rushed
A flock of death and ruin
Earth painted crimson, day painted black
The cold, the dark, the fear

The sky ripped up and down they looked
Gargantuan and monstrous
With sheer disdain they judged our worth
And found us wanting

Weak world
Frail minds
Lay waste
Bleed dry
Gorge on
Its soul
Then rape
The husk
