haywoods - what i've done wrong

The first breath I took turned to fog
I already knew I was lost
The cold it had gripped to my bones
And I couldn't see a way home
But night after night I kept on
There had to be some place to go
Through fields and towns I found
It was strange
There was no-one around
It wasn't long before I heard the beast feeding
You couldn't conceive of it's devilish greed
And I froze
Then tried
But I couldn't run anymore
With chattering teeth
And a cold dread heartbeat
It's fire and brimstone eyes were upon me
I went for my gun
But I couldn't see
What I'd done wrong
The wisdom and words of your scripture
Cannot help me now
You wouldn't and couldn't know how
To save this poor soul
No I had to learn for myself
Here come the villagers
Charging with horses
They've let loose the reigns
They're searching with pitchforks and torches aflame
With hate in their hearts
Convinced of their blame
I know I should leave
Cause they might see
What I've done wrong
