Bread and the Man - Base & Superstructure

These four walls, they weren't built by me
Known collectively as society
They have an internal integrity
Language, Politics, Law, Morality

Build them higher up and it's further we see
On the parapets of democracy
Draw the map outside and its topography
Shows the world inside's not what it's s'posed to be

Can't think of things if we don't have the words
Power has rendered our world so absurd
Contemptible laws keep our voices unheard

Structures of civilisation itself
Kill populations and say it's for health
Dig your own grave, leave your sense on the shelf

These four walls, they were bound to fail
The foundation's base made from capital
The distortion of what should always be
Language, Politics, Law, Morality

We could knock them down
But the foundation remains
Have to dig it up, throw it all away
Fill the hole that's left with humanity
Leave all greed behind
Live in harmony

Say what we will, do as we please
Natural law, not some kingly decrees
Look out for your neighbours and communities

Topple our leaders and weapons of state
Take back the press from the merchants of hate
Start the uprising before it's too late
