Martin K Rae - My Baby

It's summer by a river wide
I watch the birds in swooping flight
Evening sun now dipping near, surface glistens with its tear
Watch the water glide

That's how Creator touched my soul
Worn out spirit remade whole
And though I came there tired and hardened
Beauty fresh built up my heart
Until I felt like I'd explode

Now won't you take my baby
And hold her with loving arms
Have you looked in her eyes lately?
Let her melt you with her charms?

Mountains green, saw a valley brown
I don't know why the trees were down
Was it pollution or disease
Just what had killed the forest trees
Would it spread still further round?

How can we smile at nature's tune
When future shadows speak of doom
But even in that valley broken
Sky of blue tore my eyes open
Beauty filled up my heart's room

Now won't you take my baby
And hold her with loving arms
Have you looked in her eyes lately?
Let her melt you with her charms?

Heat turns green to paper dry
Other times the water's high
And people stop and pause to wonder
Was it us that put them under?
Pay the change or shut our eyes?

I do not know Creator's plan
This world he's placed in people's hands
But as he lets us free to go
He says we do reap what we sow
What would Jesus say to man?

Well won't you take my baby
And hold her with loving arms
Have you looked in her eyes lately?
Let her melt you with her charms?

Oh won't you take my baby
And hold her with loving arms
Have you looked in her eyes lately?
Will you shield her from harm?

Oh won't you take my baby
And hold her with loving arms
Have you looked in her eyes lately?
Will you shield her from harm?
