Brian Cscott Chastain-Scott - Thank You for Serving

What's going on in this world
Why we got all of this negativity
All this hatin' and fakin
Just to pretend like you're fakin

And swishin' every track that you takin
Why you tryin' to copy all of my moves
If you just pay attention to me
Instead of tryin' to switch up on me

You would know that I get
Almost everything away for free
Just like Gary Vee
Just like E.T

Just like T.E
Just like the military
You know one side of me
That I do things for free

And I give more than I take
And I don't care if it's fake
A lot of my homies never made it back from being overseas
A lot of my homies are here now

But PTSD is not always easy to see
A lot of my homies are here now
But anxiety is not something that goes away easily
A lot of my homies are here now

But the person is not the best person to be in
And all of these men and women have been on missions
You wouldn't even wanna be in
Don't you know what it's like in California

You can't just live here for free
There's a price to pay for everything
I do something for the country
It may not look like it

But I put in my time and I put in my work
You probably wouldn't even make it through the steps
You probably wouldn't even try your best
Ring the bell because someone else is next

You wouldn't be the same if you experienced
Everything I had to experience
And to know that at any moment
One false step, one false move

One false anything and anything you do
Can make it disappear
In the dead, in the water
Stuck with surviving off a Red Bull and Monster

Can't even touch the water
Stuck with surviving off a Pepsi and Coke
Can't even drink the water
Have you heard of the Dirk, the Dirk of Doom

It's the overseas version of the, the, I do
Only get the special dose
When there's bad news and something to lose
A lot of my homies never made it back from being overseas

A lot of my homies are here now
But PTSD is not always easy to see
A lot of my homies are here now
But anxiety is not something that goes away easily

A lot of my homies are here now
But depression is not the best medicine to be
And all of these men and women have been my mission
You wouldn't even want to be here

Whether it's a man in the office or the van
Or at the sea, in the boat
Or something that floats
Or you're in the air, in the plane

Defying gravity
You don't always get the recognition
But thank you for going out on every mission
Thank you for being a piece and a part

On every mission you were in
Thank you for taking the time
And making the sacrifices you made just to join in
When you look at us, you would never want to be

In some of the situations we've been in
Life is tough for everyone, but we keep on living
We keep on moving with the gleeful words
Ready to jump in and protect those under the rest

Even though some days we may not always get dressed
The same way every day
We still keep on living
We still keep on moving with intention and a purpose

We were trained to know that
Everything doesn't have to be perfect
For something to work
We can and we'll fail at a lot of things

We can and we'll never be perfect
We can and we'll make it through
Every teacher put in work
Around and around us

No matter how hard things get
Giving up is something we haven't done yet
Some of us are out here living day by day
Check the check

Some of us can't even get a job yet
There's so many programs
Yet there's so many turndowns
So when you see us, don't worry about us

Just respect us
A nod or a handshake in the word thanks
Is more than enough to all of us
