Scott Lavene - Custard

The clouds outside are peachy, and even though we live in a flat, I told my daughter we could get a dog. She said that she’ll do all the walking.
But I know that’s not true, because she’s only five and five year olds don’t walk dogs alone. So it’s gonna be me in the morning, picking up its turds, watching the sky turn, listening to the birds, trying to avoid mundane conversations with other humans.
Cos I don’t like to go outside. I like to stay at home. I like to drink custard, straight out of the carton. I like to wear my pants and a woolly hat and peer out of the window at all the bloomin’ idiots. Custard.
The sky is full of stars, my wife is full of heart. She’s leaving for a night shift cos one of us needs to have a proper job, as music and poems don’t bring in much money. Lately I’ve been running online writing workshops, pretty easy money.
Cos I don’t like to go outside. I like to stay at home. I like to drink custard, straight out of the carton. I like to wear my pants and a woolly and peer out of the window at all the bloomin’ idiots. Custard.
