Fall River Music Project - Phone Call

You call me for an answer
From my window in the moonlight
I see a glint of metal
Headed for Rhode Island
Oh Rhode Island
Great polity

It's seconds past midnight
You're driving out of town
Looking at a map missing proper nouns
A swan lands on the esplanade
Departing from a group of frogs
To sit beside me as I'm looking up
"What's that humming up above?"
"It's not me, I don't know what."

Fresh paint on the highway
Counting down in triplets
As you pass through the brush
Now upon a crater
Lights flash from the bottom
And you shield your eyes

The city forms a wetland
I wade through parked cars and boulevards
Hearing violins
Outside your apartment building
A motorcycle crashes turning
Quickly into tiny smithereens
Leaving none of the machine
Just a passing memory
