Peachtree Poets - Midnight Train

Standing on the platform suitcase in my hand
The midnight train's a-coming gonna leave this land
I see your face in the window tears in your eyes
As the whistle blows it's time to say goodbye

The wheels start turning the engine's roar
Taking me away from the life we swore
I'll ride these tracks through the dark and cold
Searching for a future in the stories untold

Midnight train take me far away
From the heartache and the pain of yesterday
Through the night past the sorrow and the rain
I'll find my way on this midnight train

The stars above are guiding as the towns blur by
I think of all the dreams we had the reasons why
With every mile between us the memories remain
Of a love so deep and a whispered name

In the rhythm of the rail I hear our song
A melody of love where we belong
But life moves on and so must I
Chasing down a dream under a lonesome sky

Midnight train take me far away
From the heartache and the pain of yesterday
Through the night past the sorrow and the rain
I'll find my way on this midnight train

Someday I might return when the journey's done
When I've found the answers and the battles won
But for now I must travel on this lonely track
Hoping that one day I'll find my way back

Midnight train take me far away
From the heartache and the pain of yesterday
Through the night past the sorrow and the rain
I'll find my way on this midnight train

As the dawn breaks and the night fades to gray
I'll keep moving forward come what may
On this midnight train through the joy and pain
I'll search for my place till we meet again
I'll search for my place till we meet again
