Ryan William Coughlin - The Long Road to Victory

I walked on down the street, nobody noticed me. Wonder what I’m doing wrong
Or where I’m going, emotions frozen. All that’s left for me are memories of you
As I keep walking I feel like I’m only just another fish stuck in school
I’m two outs at the bottom of the ninth and down by two with one strike to lose

So let me share your tired coming of age story of mine
About a young man evolved from a kid at the end of the line
Still like to let my watch, my clothes and my toys reflect me
But no longer dwell in misery that people make out for me

So keep thinking that I’m a leech feeding on your love
It’ll charge my throttle, energizing motives from
My soul. My heart will keep taking what life brings
Just focus straight on ahead and do my own thing

Time to reflect, appreciate and bury the past that I’ve been trapped in
Dig my way out of this hole, bust loose, break free and aim for happy

Can’t fall into the drink, the drugs I’ve seen too many lives taken
Down and over spiral outta control, that’s why I know the direction ta’ go

So keep thinking I worry about all lies told
Convincing me to be something, well I am not sold
Looking back I’ve learned so much I can not sing
How grateful I am, now I’m doing my own thing

The pages turn and I can’t begin to fathom how time flies
Who coined that phrase anyways? Time is not tangible
But the clock that revolves it’s hands is real to me
Move fast, beyond belief inconsiderately and constantly
But when I think about it, it may be the truest face I’ve seen
And it’s all so close now I can taste it on the tip of my tongue
Squeeze myself into every threshold I can get my name into
We’ll see the scripts do flips on the day you’ll face you

Cause I’ll walk down the street, everyone will notice me for all I’ve done right
Anywhere I go, emotions glow and a memory is all you’ll be
And I’ll keep striding in my own school, the only fish swimming
With bases loaded at the bottom of the ninth and up by two with one hit to win
