Shades of One - Giant Fish

Below the icy surface of the ocean
I see a fish with giant teeth and fins
The fish approaches slowly from deep waters
And from its mouth I see a light so dim
I hate the cold. There's no one on the ice with me
A glimpse of moonlight in the monster's eye
It stares at me, follows every move I make
And through the teeth I see someone inside
And in my arms I hold a shining light for you
It's filled with love and memories warm and tender
The flame inside will burn and not surrender
I know it's you who made the fish come true
And so I take the light to melt the ice below
I make a hole and I reach underneath
The ocean grips my hand with freezing water
So I don't feel the cut and start to bleed
The creature's hungry, it senses blood and leaps at me
But it is blinded by the light above
The frozen surface cracks and breaks the rotten teeth
Now I see you, and now you see my love
I see a soul that's dying oceans under
I see your heart so hurt and hidden from outside
Eyes of a child so bright and full of wonder
Can we return to those we left behind?
But now it's me who's bruised and cold and hurting
And what I ask is for the fish to disappear
Under the moon to walk together on the ocean
To trust in me, to let us both heal
