Matthew McLaughlin - Drive Safe

Driving downtown one night down Bank Street
Looking for a place to happen, new people to meet
My boys were in the back, having a ball and laughing
Till suddenly, a peculiar thing happened

I turned onto Queen, in both lanes stood a truck
I looked to the boys and said isn't this our luck
No time to stop, no time to say goodbye
Heaven has called for our names in the sky

The wreck was so severe they couldn't tell who we were
Just a pile of flesh and blood to the officer
But then he saw my plate and called my family
Everyone came quickly and arrived at the scene
My dear mother, father, and my brother all cried
Up towards the skies and screamed oh God, why
I wish I could tell them what happened that night
But lord knows I can't, I've seen my last light

My friends were long and gone
No more light or singing songs
Hopes and dreams all dashed away
By a semi in the middle of two lanes
I wish this story had a happy ending
Oh man, who am I kidding
It sure is a tragedy, no happy tale
In this story, we won't find the holy grail
