Across the Sea - Masquerade

Presenting a story from decades before
Back when people wanted more
A beautiful mistress has plans to make
Would she thrive, or would she break?

Gust of wind, the cold rain falls
Lanterns glow from the darkness

From these murky streets I see
A man appeared from nowhere
Silhouetted by candlelight

He's smiling at me, full of grace
With a spark in his eyes
He possesses a wicked charm
Almost irresistible
He leads me on to the sound of music

Enter through the door
Upstairs to the grand hall
To join in
Join the masquerade

Gentlemen, ladies, all gather here
Wearing masks of royalty
But nothing can cover their piercing eyes

Only their figures are dancing
Masks distort their true form
Becoming anyone desired

They forget the night away
I'll always remember
The hidden truth will be told

One night romancing, a night of dancing
One night reliving, a night of salvation
Seduced by the power he has over me
Cannot be fooled, I know his game

Tension is building, with anticipation
Setting things straight, of the evil things that he did

The twist of the night: I knew his devious plans all along
With a twist of his knife, ladies fell to his hand

Thoughts arise as a dark, twisted vision
Feelings too powerful to stop

He played them all, so I mastered his game
Turned the tables to avenge them

A life form now faded
He paid the price
Justice was served , for those he betrayed

A shadow of my former self
Broken my mask
What awaits for me now?
I was the masquerade
