True Gospel Bookstore - Yet

I lay upon an icy table prepped for care
While searing blades cut through my faulty self
Then I awoke in a peaceful place unknown
Was it a subtle prank of the morphine drip?

I floated up and pulled restraints away
To free myself to join with those who dance
Who move together buoyant on an endless floor
Then an arm appeared and pushed me gently back
And I returned once more to dreary sleep...

Not yet ready to say goodbye
Not yet the day to find out why
Not yet due to leave this place

Not yet time to loose my grip
Not yet the warmth of endless peace
Not yet the hour I leave regret
As close to God as I will get
Not yet

Once more I seemed to wake up in a darkened room
Standing there a nurse ignoring me
A young man, his blue face a moon aglow
Reading from the vital signs displayed

I asked to hear his thoughts so he turned to me
And looked down as if to say - "No fear"
All in a glance the message, it came through clear
With dark crater eyes he said to me
I'm here for you but...

Not yet ready to say goodbye
Not yet the day to find out why
Not yet due to leave this place

Not yet time to loose my grip
Not yet the warmth of endless peace
Not yet the hour I leave regret
As close to God as I will get
Not yet

I don't know what vignettes evolve from death's close call or what remains
But now I live to see when "yet" will be
And what must happen first beneath the distant blue-tinged face that does not speak
But I sense is hovering near to see

Not yet ready to say goodbye
Not yet the day to find out why
Not yet due to leave this place

Not yet time to loose my grip
Not yet the warmth of endless peace
Not yet the hour I leave regret
As close to God as I will get
Not yet
