Hello, and welcome to Weather Today.
Well, its been a lovely day for some in the northwest, whereas many southern and central areas have been hit with some really heavy and torrential downpours. However, wherever you are, it will turn increasingly chilly through this evening, and perhaps a little frosty in places overnight.
As we progress through the week, things will turn downhill for more northern counties of England as a band of rain pushes its way north and eastwards, affecting many here.
From Wednesday, yet more rain will push in towards southern parts of England and Wales; however, there will be some brighter skies in central areas as the rain starts to ease here and allows the sunshine to break through. Itll be similar too in the northern parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland; rain beginning to move away with some drier interludes and some decent spells of sunshine as well.
So lets take a look at the temperatures, then. Well see highs of around 7 to 8 Celsius in more northern parts of England and Scotland; however, further south temperatures will be slightly higher than that, peaking at around 10 degrees. The mornings, though, are looking quite chilly, with a risk of some patchy frost around in places, particularly the further north you are, where temperatures here could just dip down to below freezing.
And the cold air remains in place across northern parts of the UK, with low pressure developing near to the south.
However, its not all bad news. It does look as if spring will bring us a rise in our temperature as we move towards the latter part of the week with a slightly improved picture. Temperatures will be pushing up to between 14 to 16 Celsius, with some clear skies and warm spells of sunshine on the way for most. However, due to the cold sea temperatures it will be much cooler for coastal areas, along with some misty, murky conditions expected here. But for many, there should be some fine and settled weather on offer.
And this fine weather comes courtesy of a large area of high pressure sitting over the Azures, with southerly winds dragging up this mild air. However, in Scotland low pressure and its associated weather fronts will bring spells of rain and strengthening winds, some of which could even creep into northern parts at times. So the best of the sunshine expected to be in the south-east and East Anglia, with temperatures here around 14 Celsius. Everywhere else will still be relatively mild for the time of year, due to this warm air pushing up from the south, with temperatures hovering in double figures.
As we move towards the end of the week, the low pressure and its associated weather fronts eases away, high pressure becomes more dominant, so more northern areas should also become drier. Again, youll find the warmer temperatures around the south, east and central parts of the UK, with the possibility of temperatures here reaching the high teens. There will still be some areas of cloud in the northwest, moving up into Scotland at times, but it should still feel fairly warm for most.
The weekend will likely see the peak of the temperatures, with London and southern parts creeping into the 20s. The rest of the UK will notice the warmth too, but there will be some areas of cloud making it slightly cooler at times. High pressure continues to influence the weather, though, throughout the weekend, keeping everywhere dry, settled and relatively warm.
