T. Barlow - Heard My Cry

Way before I ever was a Christian
I went to church all my life
Yo, but listen
Way before I was a true convert
God was loving me
Before I could do my dirt
Never for a second
Did He think of second guessing
His election
The proof is in the way
He came and paid for indiscretions
I committed
With commitment
Cause I sinned with no conviction
And I dare not call it slipping
Cause I wanted nothing different
Often I am horrified
Thinking of my war with God
Chasing lusts, adoring pride
Something like a whorish life
Sin would open doors, invite me in
And I would go inside
And I ain't care about the consequence
I just enjoyed the ride
Living with that wickedness
I'm nothing less than mortified
And if I died while in that sin
God would still be glorified
But there before the grace of God
I've been redeemed and sanctified
I praise Him and I thank Him, I
Live to join Him in the sky

I'm leaning on the Lord who sits on High
I Love the Lord that He heard my cry
He loved me first and I don't know why
He proved it when He sent His Son to die
And now I have Life
From the Lord who sits on High
I Love the Lord that He heard my cry
He loved me first and I don't know why
He proved it when He sent His Son to die
And now I have Life

I've spent a lot time here
Working on my craft
I should've spent that time
More focused on my act
I can't say I wasn't hypocriting
On Sunday I was Holy
But on Monday I would hit the switch
Plot a move and hit the lick
Call the crew and hit the strip
Bought the 'xclu and took a hit
Fought a few and split a lip
And even if it took a bit
Of time
I would call your boo and slide on through to hit the chick
A sinful genius in my ignorance
And I ain't bragging
I'm lamenting
Broken and I'm venting
I'm yearning for forgiveness
From the people who are victims
Most of all from my God
Against whom I was sinning
I'm needing Him to grant me repentance
Lord, have mercy on me
Please kill the pervert in me
Create in me a clean heart
I need You working in me
So I can bask in your glory
On the path set before me
Let not Your wrath be my story
End
Hold me close, and draw me in
And if I ever fall again
I pray you catch me by the hand
And keep me in your presence
Through the blessing of the Man
Who was born of a virgin
In the town of Bethlehem
Whenever I'm in trouble
I can now look for Him
Because there's nothing more sufficient
Than the Fisher of all fishers
Lord, I bow in full submission
Give me the ears so I can listen
Help my vision
By Your light
I'll let it glisten
In the dark I'm prone to stumbling
My life is like a shadow
Of Satan's kingdom crumbling
I'm broken and I need you
Cause if I'm in the flesh
There is no hope for me to please You
I need Your righteousness
I pray You work it so it bleeds through
And saturates my living
So when finished I can see you
So many, they don't get it
It's a gift that we believe You
Regenerated by Your Spirit
Otherwise, we will not hear it
Scoffing in our sin
Until the day of Your appearance
Cause without Your intervention
There's no fear or no revering
Blessed are the ones You choose
And drag and draw them nearer
What kind of love it takes
To send Your Son for a sinner
From what I'm understanding
It's a love that's infinite
From the ever present God
Who's never gone for a minute
In the midst of my rebellion
And my failure
You were there
How dare a person curse You
Screaming like You are unfair
With the very breath
You bless them with
Your mercy's loud and clear
We act as if You're weak and powerless
But Au Contraire
You are the Omni-potent
Triple holy
God of everywhere
Eternal from the past
To beyond the atmosphere
I pray You come back fast
And take Your bride from out of here
Your mercy's everlasting
And my hands are in the air

I'm leaning on the Lord who sits on High
I Love the Lord that He heard my cry
He loved me first and I don't know why
He proved it when He sent His Son to die
And now I have Life
From the Lord who sits on High
I Love the Lord that He heard my cry
He loved me first and I don't know why
He proved it when He sent His Son to die
And now I have Life
More abundantly
What a wonder He would come for me
Amazing grace don't it sound so sweet
I was in the dark but now I see
Because He's the Light
Of the world and He heard my cry
And pitied every groan
As I live and my troubles rise
His grace will lead me home
To eternal life
