Ed Farrington - I've Been Around

All these balloons they remind me
Although there's strings you can feel free
And the world is big but that's not me
Should you cry when one is let go

I've been around America
I've seen some sights and art and such
But nothing like standing at the edge
Of a vastness that makes you feel small

Grand Canyon
Rocky Mountains
The Pacific Ocean
Mesas and the plains
And when you turned away

Flowers and their petals
Make nature seem so magical
Sunlight across the dew at dawn
And a whisper on your neck

Now the waves on the shoreline
Come crashing in a rhythm
That's Lulled me to sleep
And heat lightning flashing
Above the darkened desert
Is a vivid memory
But moonlit starry nights
In the cool Maine air
Are there to remind me

I've been around America
I've seen signs directing me around
But nothing prepares for the sound
Of a vastness that makes you feel small

Carlsbad Caverns
Smokey Mountains
The Atlantic Ocean
Sequoias and fields of hay
And when you turned away

And then you turned my way
