John Kirk - The Cross of Christ

I was walking through the town just the other day
When I heard a commotion close by
So I went on over to take a look
To see with my own eyes
In the midst of the crowd I could see a stumbling figure
Dragging a heavy cross crown of thorns on His head
The people were shouting we all want you dead

He was a man all beaten and bruised
With blood running down His face
But then when He stopped and looked right at me
All I could see was grace only grace

They led Him away and
They nailed Him that day
To that heavy wooden cross
But instead of cursing He looked up
Forgive them Father He said
Well the people stood around just to watch Him die
As many black clouds filled the sky
Then as He breathed His last
The earth it shook what's happening they cried

Was He a man or was He more
Some say He was the Son of God
But I watched as the graves opened
And I heard the temple veil was torn
The veil was torn

I was walking down the road with a friend of mine
And we were talking through these events
Then when a stranger joined us and He explained
It all made perfect sense.

Then as we sat down to eat at the table that night
And He took and broke the bread
Our eyes were opened and we knew Him
Then He vanished from our sight

He was a man and it's just as He said
He truly is the Son of God
He opened our eyes so we could see for ourselves
That Jesus has been raised from the dead
Raised from the dead
