A lifetime of adventures lies in his past

The colossal shape of a dragon stands

On the door is a frantic knock and he knows it is the king

The tired hero told the king to get lost
The king refused, he would make him fight, no matter the cost
The hero told his fighting days were over long ago
The king threatened to kill his family, burying them in the snow

He rode up to the dragon and proposed to take the fight away
The dragon agreed, when they were out of sight
He spat about the town's way

The tyrant king, a weakling town, a complete nightmare
Extorting him to do their bidding, but he could no longer care
In disbelief he watched as the dragon started to cry
The dragon council ordered him to kill or his family would die

Explaining through the stream of tears, what a dragon must do
To become a true member of their culture, if only humans knew
Fight a hero, eat his weapons, and burn his carcass too
A suicide mission the elders deviced,
Once beyond the gates none would come back through

Together tired of all their cultural pressure they deviced a plan
This day came to be known they teamed up, dragon and men
He mounted the dragon and using its wingspan
They took to the sky, as high as they can

Petrified the town was waiting for their hero's return
For the good news that the dragon was slayed they yearned
But when they heard maniacal laughter it raised some concern
Not knowing that soon all of them would burn

A massive roar came rumbling from beyond the clouds
What they saw ended all the citizens doubts

Their hero came swooping down on the dragon's back
Laughing at the scene of panic of their attack
Screaming and howling it was time for payback
The dragon fire turning them all coal black

At long last they both would finally be left alone
The tired hero and the dragon
Throughout the land they were known
