Mr. Ed and the Wilburs - Social Distancing

I had a dream about you last night
The house was getting small
With just me in it

I went for a drive
East down eighty
Windows cracked

Soon I was out of the city
In the country
Foreign yet familiar

Blues emanated from the speakers
Upbeat but down
I changed channels
I wasn't ready to sing along

The sun kept sinking
Behind the trees
Until it was fully beneath
The rural landscape

I stopped to get gas
And I turned around

I wanted to pollute
The clean country air
With dirty words
But I had nothing to say

Recently learned
Surf steeped in cow punk
And doo wop
Bled in my ears
Smooth

I had the urge to throw
Glass out the window
To hear it shatter
On the asphalt
The phone doesn't ring

The lights are on
But no one's home
In the city when I return

All the headlights
Look the same
Through the raindrops
On my windshield

Cars are outside
The 24 hour porn store
I guess it's an essential business

Red means stop
And greens mean go
But the only lights I hit
Are yellow

The house is empty
Except for two cats
And a single woman's shoe
It was weird
